Und immer kommt es anders…
Eigentlich sollte es ein Städtetrip an einem sonnigen Sonntag werden. Städtetrips sind etwas Schönes – aber sie machen auch durstig. Was macht man also nach so einer Tour? Na klar, man geht in ein gemütliches Irish Pub und verarbeitet die Eindrücke bei einem kühlen Guinness und einem feinen Glas Whisky. Also haben wir im Internet nach einem Irish Pub in der zu besuchenden Stadt gesucht – zu unserem Entsetzen vergebens. Eine mittelgroße Stadt ohne Pub? Komisch.
Was wir stattdessen gefunden haben, hat allerdings unsere Phantasie sprudeln lassen wie ein eiskaltes Bulmers: ein Ape Piaggio mit einer hübschen, kleinen irischen Bar auf der Ladefläche – ein mobiles Irish Pub. Genial!
Wo gibt`s denn sowas?
Also haben wir weitere Suchmaschinen befragt und fanden tatsächlich einige ähnliche mobile Pubs auf der ganzen Welt. Natürlich in Irland, in den USA bis tief im Süden in Neuseeland. Und in Deutschland – in Halle/Saale, Berlin, Leipzig, Erfurt oder irgendwo in unserem Umkreis?? Nichts. Schade… Die Idee eines solchen Pubs hat uns jedenfalls nicht losgelassen. Also haben wir den Städtetrip abgeblasen, uns mit einer Flasche Bier auf den Balkon gesetzt und darüber philosophiert, wie man denn selbst so ein mobiles Irish Pub gestalten würde und was man alles damit machen könnte. So verging der Sonntag wie im Fluge nach Irland und der Ideen gab es viele.
Schnapsidee?
Manchmal hat man ja so Einfälle und die sind dann auch ganz schnell wieder vergessen.
Diesmal nicht. Von jenem Sonntag an kamen wir immer wieder auf dieses «Pub On Wheels» zurück – ja, einen vorläufigen Namen hat es dann von uns auch schon bekommen. Über Wochen und Monate unterhielten wir uns immer wieder darüber und gingen mit den Ideen ins Detail. In diversen Gesprächen mit Freunden und Verwandten ist uns viel Begeisterung über die Idee entgegengebracht worden.
Irgendwann zwischen Weihnachten und Silvester 2024, als wir wieder mal über unsere Zukunft nachdachten, haben wir uns dann gesagt: «Warum eigentlich nicht? Wenn nicht wir, wer dann?» Die Idee war definitiv zu gut, um sie einfach zu vergessen. Wir wollten sowieso mal wieder etwas anderes in unserem Leben machen. Der Plan ist übrigens in unserer derzeitigen Wahlheimat – der Schweiz – entstanden. Hier ist es wunderschön und es gibt vieles, was wir vermissen werden, aber unsere Heimat Halle an der Saale und vor allem Freunde und Familie haben wir auch vermisst. Also haben wir Nägel mit Köpfen gemacht: wir ziehen wieder nach Halle und bereichern die Region mit einem weiteren Irish Pub. Einem Irish Pub in jeder Stadt.
Klar gibt es in Halle schon Irish Pubs wie zum Beispiel den Irish Fiddler – in welchem wir uns auch kennen gelernt haben – oder auch das kleine, gemütliche Nante`s Pub. Aber ein mobiles Pub auf Rädern ist mal was anderes. Stell dir vor, du willst deinen runden Geburtstag in deinem Garten feiern, oder deine Hochzeit irgendwo in einem Park – und das Pub kommt einfach zu dir…
Und wann geht es denn nun endlich los?
Nach über anderthalb Jahren des Philosophierens und auch der ernsthaften Planung verlassen wir nun Ende August 2026 die schöne Schweiz und ziehen zurück nach Halle, um ab September den kühnen Plan in die Tat umzusetzen. Hier in unserem Blog werden wir euch immer mal auf dem Laufenden halten, wie das Projekt so voran schreitet. Also schaut immer mal wieder rein, oder tragt euch in den Newsletter ein, um kein Update zu verpassen.

The Idea
Things never turn out as planned…
It was supposed to be a city trip on a sunny Sunday. City breaks are lovely – but they do make you thirsty. So what do you do after a tour like that? Well, obviously you pop in a cosy Irish Pub to reflect on the day over a cold pint of Guinness and a fine glass of whisky. So we searched online for an Irish Pub in the town we wanted to visit – much to our dismay, unsuccessfully. A medium-sized town without a pub? Strange.
What we found instead, however, set our imaginations bubbling like an ice-cold Bulmers: an Ape Piaggio with a pretty little irish bar on the flatbed – a moblie Irish Pub. Brilliant!
Where on earth do you find such a thing?
So we checked other search engines and actually found several similar mobile pubs all around the world. In Ireland, of course, and the USA up to the far south, in New Zealand. But what about Germany – in Halle/Saale, Berlin, Leipzig, Erfurt or anywhere in our local area?? Nothing. What a pity… In any case, we couldn´t get the idea of such a pub out of our heads. So we cancelled the city trip, sat on the balcony with a bottle of beer and philosophised about how we would design a mobile Irish pub ourselves and about all the ways it could be used. And so Sunday flew by like a plane to Ireland and the ideas came flooding in.
A mad idea?
Sometimes you get these ideas, and they`re quickly forgotten.
Not this time. From that Sunday onwards, we kept coming back to this «Pub On Wheels» – yes, we`d even given it a working title by then. Over weeks and months we kept talking about it and worked out the details. In various conversations with friends and relatives, we have received a lot of enthusiasm for the idea.
Sometime between Christmas and New Year`s Eve 2024, while thinking about our future once again, we finally said to ourselves: «Why not? Who else, if not us?» The idea definitely was too good to just forget. We wanted to do something different with our lives, anyway. The plan, by the way, was created in our current chosen home – Switzerland. Itś beautiful here and there is a lot we are going to miss, but we also missed our (chosen) home town Halle/Saale, and, above all, our friends and families. So we`ve taken the plunge: We will move back to Halle and enrich the area with another Irish Pub. An Irish Pub in every town.
Of course, there already are Irish Pubs in Halle, such as the Irish Fiddler – where we actually met – or the little, cosy Nante`s Pub. However, a mobile pub on wheels is something quite different. Imagine you want to celebrate your milestone birthday in your backyard, or your wedding somewhere in a park – and the pub simply comes to you…
So when are we finally getting started?
After more than a year and a half of pondering and serious planning, we will be leaving beautiful Switzerland at the end of August 2026 and are moving back to Halle, to put the bold plan into action from September onwards.
